Hints & tips for a succesful move
At a reasonable time before you move, that you:
* exclude everything that you do not wish to take (clothing, broken furniture and other items, papers, short-shelf-life food stuffs, etc.)
* notify your children's schools and make arrangements to send transcripts of school records to their new schools
* close charge accounts and notify all subscriptions of your change of address
* arrange the shipment of your pets - if any - and have them immunised
* arrange for the transfer of jewelry and important documents
* obtain hotel information and reservations, and make a note to reconfirm them
A week before you move:
* deliver shipping documents to aplift, as required and advised by their staff
* return borrowed items, and collect items that you have lent out
* have your bank transfer accounts and release your safe-deposit box
* arrange for your utility services to be connected at your new residence (if already booked)
* make arrangements to have large appliances serviced for the move
* give away articles you do not plan to take with you
* collect all clothing from the dry cleaners
* collect all medical and dental records
* dispose of all flammable items, sprays, etc.
* select and separate any travelling games for the children
* set aside things to pack in your car, if it is to be used for travelling purposes
* take down and clean curtains, rods, shelves, television and satellite antenna, etc.
* start packing suitcases with items that you need, to live for a few days
* prepare an insurance list with the value of the goods
Two days before you move:
* arrange for a baby sitter for the moving day - if required
* place in a special carton (aplift will provide cartons in advance - if required) all items that you will require on the first day at the new residence (mark carton "load last, unload first")
* find and deliver to our packers on the moving day the transit blocks or braces that secure the agitator of your washing machine, dryer, record player, etc. for safe transit
* specially mark cartons which are not to be moved, which you want to take with you
* select and separate all necessary documents (passports, customs forms, visas, pet documents, duty free booklets, etc.).
* empty and defrost freezer and refrigerator and air for at least 48 hours
* line up a simple breakfast for the morning which the move is about to take place. One that does not require the use of a refrigerator, etc.
* dispose of all foodstuffs that require controlled conditions or have exceeded their expiry date, etc.
* make yourself available on the day of the move, or have someone authorized to answer questions
* make sure aplift's supervisor inventories all your goods
* review the inventory at the end to make sure that there are no mistakes
* always telephone aplift's office, should any problems arise
* sign the inventory and keep your copy
* before leaving the house, check all rooms and other spaces for possible forgotten items, and hand the keys to the landlord, or other persons responsible for this
Hints when you move:
* on your arrival at the new location call the local aplift office , or the appointed aplift destination agent and leave your address and contact telephone number for final delivery arrangements.
* be on hand for off-loading and have a placement of furniture plan ready, for rapid service.
* check the condition of your belongings and consult the agent or the insurance leaflet in your possession. If any items are missing or damaged, note these on the inventory and the shipping papers, then report this to the destination aplift office or agent, who will in turn advise you of the procedures to follow to file your possible insurance claim, which you should submit in good time.
* the agent will deliver, unpack and set up all furniture according to previous arrangements, items will be placed in the rooms indicated as planned before our movers arrive. All packing material, empty cartons and debris will be also removed afler the completion of the delivery.
